Start with a low concentration as it can be irritating. Also, if you plan to dilute your own, be sure to USE DISTILLED WATER as any impurities will be transferred directly into your cells. Be very careful to not contaminate or use any plastic as that can dissolve and contaminate your solution. Also, be sure to buy the 99.99% pure pharmaceutical grade (I buy a German brand that is also odorless if you need a brand name).
I use DMSO (99.99%) for dissolving blot clots applied topically on the lower legs (70% DMSO / 30% Distilled water, stored in a glass bottle).
ORALLY
I also take it orally. 1 table spoon in a glass of water, or, grape juice (10 ml of 70% DMSO ENHANCES the taste of the grape juice while at ~15 ml you will start to feel the taste of DMSO). I take this for preventing further blood clots.
SMELL
If used only topically on the eyes, there's probably not going to produce much smell.
Also, the smell of the DMSO itself is not the issue, instead the smell is produced by the metabolism in the body. But in my case, after 2 weeks of use (as described above), the metabolism seems to have "gotten used to" DMSO and most of the smell is now gone.
SMELL REDUCED BY HONEY(!)
If after some time the smell produced is still less than pleasant, mix the DMSO solution with honey. I've tried adding 1/6 volume of honey to the 70% DMSO for topical use and the same for oral use. After that, no complaints by the other people in the household... ;-)
In my case my skin did not tolerate 50% DMSO, but after the strategies mentioned here, after three weeks I now use 70% flat on.
A good strategy IF there's a initial reaction on the skin from using DMSO, is to keep applying it topically on the arm (with honey) for 2 weeks. The body may well adapt and gradually accept the DMSO. This is also why it's advisable to start with lower concentrations (on skin, start with 50%) and if skin gets irritated, mix with honey, and gradually increase strength.
EYES

The eye that I put the drops into feels soft and wonderful and now the other eye is asking why it was forgotten.... so I will comply!
I put both drops in both my eyes again, before I went to bed. I noticed how my eyes didn't tear all day long and usually they tear up quite a bit in the daytime, I live at 8,000' and it's 40 degrees.
castor oil also makes your eye lashes and brows regrow, dab on once a night.

I don't think it can inhibit cataract growth unless it's inside the eye socket. The blurr lasts a minute.

But firstly, the masses need to be de-hypnotize themselves from the medical-pharmaceutical fear-based brainwash. MSM is a sulfur compound milder than DMSO, not the same thing as Humble's MMS oxidizing chlorine dioxide compound.

Start with a low concentration as it can be irritating. Also, if you plan to dilute your own, be sure to USE DISTILLED WATER as any impurities will be transferred directly into your cells. Be very careful to not contaminate or use any plastic as that can dissolve and contaminate your solution. Also, be sure to buy the 99.99% pure pharmaceutical grade (I buy a German brand that is also odorless if you need a brand name).

Mix DMSO with CBD/THC mixture for pain. Use MCT oil as dilutant.
TOPICALLY
I use DMSO (99.99%) for dissolving blot clots applied topically on the lower legs (70% DMSO / 30% Distilled water, stored in a glass bottle).
ORALLY
I also take it orally. 1 table spoon in a glass of water, or, grape juice (10 ml of 70% DMSO ENHANCES the taste of the grape juice while at ~15 ml you will start to feel the taste of DMSO). I take this for preventing further blood clots.
SMELL
If used only topically on the eyes, there's probably not going to produce much smell.
Also, the smell of the DMSO itself is not the issue, instead the smell is produced by the metabolism in the body. But in my case, after 2 weeks of use (as described above), the metabolism seems to have "gotten used to" DMSO and most of the smell is now gone.
SMELL REDUCED BY HONEY(!)
If after some time the smell produced is still less than pleasant, mix the DMSO solution with honey. I've tried adding 1/6 volume of honey to the 70% DMSO for topical use and the same for oral use. After that, no complaints by the other people in the household... ;-)

ALLERGY
In my case my skin did not tolerate 50% DMSO, but after the strategies mentioned here, after three weeks I now use 70% flat on.
A good strategy IF there's a initial reaction on the skin from using DMSO, is to keep applying it topically on the arm (with honey) for 2 weeks. The body may well adapt and gradually accept the DMSO. This is also why it's advisable to start with lower concentrations (on skin, start with 50%) and if skin gets irritated, mix with honey, and gradually increase strength.
EYES
I haven't tried on the eyes (although I have some problems for which I might try DMSO) but after making sure there's no allergy, I wouldn't hesitate put it in the eyes. That's my own "next step" even after the initial reactions I've had.

I've read where DMSO can break down and produce the smelly dimethyl sulfide at a small amount that emits the garlicky smell from mouth and body. So, even if you buy the 99.995% pure DMSO, it still can produce the DMS which emits the odor.

DMSO itself doesn't smell very much, if at all.
The smell comes from the body metabolizing it, producing the smell.
Therefore the amount of smell also differs from person to person, and it seems it gradually decreases with use.
Mixing the DMSO with honey makes a HUGE difference in reducing the smell to almost non-existant.
