I tried to follow you on Twitter but it demands my phone number, and I stopped giving my phone number to every Tom, Dick and Harry years ago. Isn't it an illegal invasion of privacy to demand it? I thought Musk was going to improve things. Guess not.

I dropped my old twitter account I rarely used a while ago after fighting with them for a year to remove a lock on my account after someone else got hold of it and changed the personal name.
they eventually cleared the lock but demanded a phone number. closed account.
before elonicus bought majority share, they wanted a phone number to open a new account. no new account.
for fun, after musk started his free speech claims, I went to make a new account. no phone requirement anywhere, so I now have a silent account (except for posting on his "unlocking accounts" thread to please reinstate el gato malo @boriquagato.)
I do not give my phone number to any media platform. If they require it, like Facebook, and I assume, Twitter, I don't join. Google and YouTube periodically try to trick me into giving them a phone number--recently, a couple of times when I used a particular VPN server, YouTube threatened to lock me out of managing my uploads unless I verified my account with a phone number, but fortunately I was able to use a different server and avoid that requirement.
