So in terms of their effects on mortality, the vaccines were not apocalyptic. However, Ed Dowd's work on non lethal injuries shows that the picture is much bleaker and we have yet to see their long term effect on the fertility of young women. She wore two masks and got the jab and every follow up recommended. A very healthy woman. Dropped dead on her porch. Just damn dropped dead. No warning at all.

Excluding H1 thus biases the baseline data in favour of states which ended up with lower vaccination rates. There's really no reason to not include the whole pre-vaccination pandemic period in your baseline, i.e.: starting from March 2020. Why exclude just the first 4 months and retain the last 5 or 6, when there are obviously different geographical patterns of Covid prevalence in H2 compared to H1 ? I don't think any state had their second major wave prior to Dec 2020, whereas most places had by then experienced their first wave. I haven't computed with the US data, but both the European and global data show similar patterns when you compare the whole pre-vax pandemic period with what followed: 2021 looks similar to H2 of 2020, with excess mortality rates negatively correlated with vax rates, before a signficant shift post-omicron.
You didn't make a mistake. And of course your conclusion is correct. Where you need to be careful is the possibility that the higher mortality is correlated to another variable. For example, assume that California has higher vaccination rates and higher mortality rates than Nebraska. A portion of this could be due to general levels of health in the two states. It could also be due to the age distibution in the two states (think of the age distribution in Florida) or many other things. The fact that these methods could be challenged as less than conclusive does not invalidate them. Let the opposition invalidate them. Keep producing evidence.
