Had a conversation with an old friend with whom I speak a few times a year. We don't visit because I won't vaccinate and she and her family are up-to-date on every Covid and flu shot and whatever else the doctor recommends. She has diabetes but until recently her very fit husband had been very active. She told me her husband who had a small stroke a couple of years ago has wildly fluctuating blood pressure and early stage Alzheimer's. Then she volunteers that it must be genetic because both of his brothers and a cousin have the same diagnoses.
Then she asks me, at least for the 4th time, what do I think of RFK Jr.? I tell her, again, that I am solidly in his corner. Then she tells me that she "feels sorry for me. He's a horrible person" and she "believes in science." I tell her I understand science and have read it, but let's not go down that road again. So she asks what I think about Trump. I tell her, again, that I think he is an egotist, a conman and an utterly untrustworthy liar who doesn't belong in office, but the smartest thing he did was recruit Bobby after the Dems totally rejected him. So let's just leave it we agree on Trump and not on Bobby.
She told me I should visit her sometime because she doesn't feel safe driving anymore, and that she and Joe had their last flu and Covid shots in October. His Alzheimer's diagnosis was in November.
BTW: My other really good old friend who is up-to-date on all her Covid & Flu shots developed atrial fibrillation and hearing loss, but that's a coincidence. She also nursed another friend through a rapidly metasizing breast cancer that reoccured after 11 year of clean annual reports. I tried with her to the edge of a permanent rift, we just don't talk about it any longer which strains our relationship.
Anyone else notice how the Covid shots people keep marveling at getting Covid 'again' and it doesn't seem to occur to them that they are testing positive for Covid because they got the shots. I haven't been sick very often in the last 4 years (twice as I recall), one time was most likely Covid (husband tested himself and tested positive), second time standard cold and Covid was not even close to the worst illness I've had in the last 25 years. I basically had laryngitis for Covid and my husband kept having a fluctuating temperature which made him feel bad. People we know who got the shots, most seem to have gotten sick a lot more often than us.
No vaccines for me in years. I had a very mild (36 hour) case of Covid in June 2020 and a week-long cold in November 2022. I don't wear a mask and see people.
During the "lockdowns" I would take my teen kids over to see Grandma, they would order breakfast from a local restaurant for take out and have breakfast together. If they had any signs of sickness then I wouldn't take them (not that they did). The worst thing I could of done to my mom is cut her off, like the rest of society did.
Husband's best friend from childhood is married to a nurse. She loves the medical system and insisted that they all get the Covid shots. I don't know how many they got, but he and his 16 year old son now have heart damage. There seems to be a strong familial trend in who has bad reactions. My blood relations have fared better than most and there weren't hot batches in my location. What I think is bizarre is listening to the people around me complain about how many memorials they have gone to and relatively youngish people dropping dead suddenly and they don't see the connection between events that never occurred before and the shots. I'm glad we spotted the lies and became skeptics early. I probably would have fared okay, but I'm pretty sure my husband would have had devastating consequences and as my kids have his dna it would be a toss up as to whether they did too.

Last week, at work two colleagues were discussing how they can really no longer decipher what someone is saying to them even at close proximity if they are talking at a lunch table or in a pub (a bar) or with any other background noise. Both colleagues are just 40s-50s in age and seemingly otherwise healthy. Neither has actual hearing problems to my knowledge.
Then, the same week, a couple of people couldn't understand me when I was in my meditation class during the tea break. The same thing - they complained about background noise even though it was pretty low. And then moved seats to lean in and really listen carefully, but it was a struggle. The people must also have been 40s in age.
Then TODAY, a different colleague (30s) said the same thing (completely independently of the other people) about a work Christmas dinner: he couldn't understand conversations even nearby to him because of cross-talk. It was so bad he has decided to go and see a doctor about it.
So, more generally, are people (and I mean covid-19 vaccinated unless there is some other realistic explanation) suffering some neurological slowdown that is affecting their ability to decipher conversation in noisy environments?
Has anyone else heard of this complaint recently? Or observed it in themselves? If you've noticed this and you are not C-19 vaccinated I want to hear it too.

Hi Jo, sorry to hear that. But what marks these people out is that they have all noticed this as a new, recent thing. And quite severe. One of them, thinks it "must be old age" even though he is about 50. The other one (35 ish) said it was so bad the other day (and not an existing thing) that he has decided to see a doctor. So that's not "Always had this".

My doctor actually started the visit with a list of shots that he thought I should take - it was creepy, especially since the last time that I saw him I gave him my copy of RFK Jr's book. We then went on to talk about my LDL level, which is still high. He strongly recommended a statin, as he has for the last 20yrs, and yes my LDL has been above the recommended zone for that long. In response, I asked for a cardiac CT (for which I pay) to see if I have a plaque buildup problem. I had one 4yrs ago and my results came back as min-detectable (0-20% in LAD). Considering that I am 59, I have a long way to go before there's a problem.
Your poor doctor! I've just diagnosed him as having repitative bairn-brain brain strain injury as evidenced by the last 20 years. I recommend for him a cranial content transplant and scientific literacy lessons with tutelage from RFK.
Ps. for folk that don't know what a bairn is, it's the Scottish/English word for young child.

I've never taken a single statin, even though the doctor guaranteed I'd die of heart disease in my thirties and ultimately threw me out of her practice. I'm in my 70s and my heart is perfectly sound. I am not on any medications although I take supplements.
From our perspective, this looks very bleak indeed. Especially when someone has asked the question and then acted contrarily to the response offered. One way I've come to peace with this is to understand that I never know the soul path of another human.

I now call the flu season the 'flu shot season'.
They get the shot and after that get the flu and no neuron in the brain is activated to connect the dots....
