Only in the past several years has the term been hijacked by those who want to employ it on the internet for the bigoted purposes. Note that most the media who are gaslighting the pandemic use this word to marginalize reasonable people like us. This is an important distinction. I disagree. Cults really do have identifying structures and one main point of identification is that adherents surrender or subsume their critical thinking abilities as a means of gaining acceptance by other adherents.
