I have watched many interviews with RFK, Jr and he is often forced to defend his beliefs by saying he is not "anti-vax" as he received all what, 6 of his childhood vaccines (as did I being born in 1961). Most people in my very blue area reflexively react negatively, "Oh, he's a horrible person". A close relative: "He's clearly a nut job". A former "friend" prior to Covid felt the need to tweet: "He's an embarrassment". Another close friend used to admire him but stopped because "he's against vaccines". They know nothing about him, they know nothing of the history, they know nothing about the 1986 act, they just stupidly repeat something they heard or read. All they can muster is: "anti-vaxxer" and they all feel self-satisfied being part of a huge, uninformed club.

You are spot on.
