As a kid I wanted to be either a Pilot or doctor. Both professions have been destroyed. My vision disqualified me from being a pilot and my ethics prevented me from beiing a doctor.

I predict that cargo-liners will be making a comeback. That was a cheaper (because slower) way to travel in the steamship era. Big ships today have plenty of spare cabins, all they need is a business partner to connect travellers with ship owners. It won't appeal to people in a hurry, but for those of us who like to take our time, it has a certain appeal.

Long ago I knew a wonderful, brilliant woman who was a microbiology teacher at a medical university overseas where I was also teaching. I asked her why she didn't go on to become a doctor. She proceeded to tell me how she disliked most doctors because in her words, "They tended to act like arrogant little gods, thinking they know everything." Therefore she didn't want to become a doctor.
