The last time in history that there was this deadly of a gaslighting and denial effort, was when a gruesome profit machine was set up to liquidate the last remaining possessions of millions of poor gaslit souls (oh, the horrible irony) who clung to the belief that things couldn't get any worse - if we just follow the authorities' orders to make it easier on everyone.
And the mayors and other village officials initially denied the horrible smell, but later acquiesced that the smell was due to the filthy deplorable service-workers being housed in the re-education camps just outside of town - as they were told to report by the national authorities.
And the townspeople accepted those strange explanations because they didn't want to speak up and risk being ostracized and perhaps even lose their job and career. They noticed how the authorities had come for their neighbors.
And the national and local press ignored the story and refused to investigate because they were complete ideologues to the new leaders who were promoting the benefits to society of their new science and redefined vocabulary. They instead did puff-piece stories on their heroes and gave them awards while viciously attacking and maligning anyone who dared to go against the narrative or question their hero leaders, basically publicly reporting them to the authorities who would then take action. After all, you cannot bite the hand that feeds you, or allow anyone else to jeopardize that gravy train. And those people that protested? Well, the authorities set them up and they got what they deserved...
Except this time, the death toll will be hundreds of millions before it is all exposed and fought out.
Roger has been on the wrong side of these shots from the very beginning.

Well said, Gary.
Reminds me of this poem:
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
