Let me provide you with a little bit more context. In the Czech Republic, the vax rate is about 65 % of the whole population, or 75% of 18+ (at least one jab). The mandates ordinance (mandating vax to 60+ and to policemen, fire brigadeers, medics, social workers, army members, but also to students of medical faculties and schools) was approved in November 2021 by the minister Vojtěch in demission just several days before he left the office. No discussion, no questions, he simply announced this in media despite the fact that the minister elect was verbally against it (elections were in October 2021). As expected, after instalment into office, the new minister Válek “surprisingly” became reluctant to cancel the ordinance.

However, he got under much pressure from many sides. Non-corrupted scientists united under one entity Iniciativa 21 launched an offensive, organized a press conference and presented their objections, resulting from many independent analyst’s scholarly work. Also, 14 senators (10 was the minimum number) and the ombudsman Křeček (pressed by the number of emails he received following an appeal by the opposition party leader) put the mandates to the highest constitutional court for evaluating their concordance with the Constitution. Regular demonstrations with thousands protesters are being held in the capital Prague (and other cities) since November 2021. Thousands of emails demanding the cancellation of mandates and other regulations are being sent to the ministries each day.

But the decisive factor, in my opinion, was the pressure from within the groups that were affected by the mandates. Approximately 2000 medics, 6700 nurses, and 6500 fire brigadeers, policemen and soldiers signed publicly an online declaration refusing the mandates. Especially in the police, the resistance was very strong. Not only that about 25 % of them had no jab, but they organized a parallel resistance structure where they supported each other with significant help of elite lawyers from the Pro Libertate association (founded to prevent covidian unjustice). These lawyers also founded unions to protect these employees. One brave policeman Tomáš Ježek went public (on one of the big demonstrations against the covidism) and appealed to all his colleagues in the police to join their resistance group, and suddenly he witnessed a great increase of interest also from his vaxxed colleagues. Despite the pressure and bullying from their superiors, they stood together and supported each other. Next week was the expected deadline for getting the vaccination, and it seems that a significant number of policemen and members of other occupations would rather be fired that vaxed. Police lacks already about 2000 vacancies to be filled, and could not afford to lose thousands of current policemen, which would result in a sudden incapability of the state to enforce any laws.

Lessons learned are that

1) all these actions together have put the government into a situation, that had no other solution than really cancel the ordinance (though they waited until the last moment to keep the people in unsure situation to force them into getting the jab);

2) people really need to keep together, create networks and organize themselves - one lone soldier can do nothing, but when united, the whole situation changes. Without speaking out, finding allies is impossible due to auto-censorship. So please, speak out and find allies, others will join you!

And one more thing: the evil never sleeps, so on one hand, they cancelled the mandates, but on the other hand, the same day, they “secretly” pushed law amendments that allow the minister to make the regulations even more strict and severe than they already are (without a parliamentary control). The fight continues…
