He is asking Newsom for the names of the doctors who treated him, presumably so that he can ask them about his condition. Newsom would thereby be giving permission to the doctors to release his information, something patients do routinely for all sorts of reasons, and could certainly require that any information given be strictly limited to this particular condition or lack thereof, and they could agree on limitations on how much information Steve could make public, e.g., nothing more than "yes, his doctors say he has Guillaume-Barré syndrome", or "no, he does not". There is no reason to assume that Steve would make the doctors' names and information public, but if Newsom and/or his doctors are concerned about that, they could easily require it to be part of a contract that Steve not reveal any information about the doctors.
