Very good point, but the problem I have is that in my trust in all our institutions is already gone - am 60 years old and voted in every midyear and presidential election since I was 18, but will never vote again after the treachery of 2020

Just for fun, please go vote anyway. Even if it's just something you do on your way to get ice cream. Just in case the box truck stuffed with illegal ballots breaks down that day? Please?
I would caution you against this. 2020 was meant to demoralize you into not voting because Democrats = Republicans or whatever. You have to vote for those people who will fight for you, or better yet, run yourself and get elected. Generally the ones who are not supported by the system are the ones you need to focus on..
Mentally, I was at where you are about 5-6 years ago. I've come to realize inaction, or non participation, is just as bad as throwing your vote to the status quo.
I would agree we need to figure out a better way. But apathy or inaction certainly will work in their favor.
I'm a few years older and my trust in most institutions has been low to zero for decades but the past two years the lies, deceit, and propaganda have been so blatant that many more have lost trust. That's the positive thing that has come out of all of the pandemic stuff.
