God Bless you for sharing this message. There are instances appropriate for skilled nursing (if that's what it could be called) but for the most part it's a place where family members who are supposed to be "loved ones" are cast so they are not a burden (imagine that) on other "family" members. My mother lived with us the last 2 years of her life. At one point she fell while pulling weeds and the "doktors" sent her to the SNF for "rehab" (and Medicare money) We took her home against medical advice the same week. She lived with us another year. Yes, at times it was confining, her social security went to pay for a loving Christian woman to stay with her while we worked. And yes, we missed doing many of the things that we would normally do on the weekends. Looking back, the times we spent together were some of the best, the sacrifices made ended up being Blessings. Be in the Word, it is a lamp unto our feet, a light unto our path.
I so agree. I wasn’t in the position to have my mother live with me. But she did have a ‘male’ friend that she met when she was in the ‘independent living’ part of the facility prior to her moving over to the assisted living building.
He visited her everyday out on her balcony. He stood outside on a ‘landing’ close to her balcony and they could hold hands. When they allowed people into the building who were vaxxed, he was able to go in everyday and see her. They were like Romeo and Juliet! 😉💓
Sounds like a true love story, they both were Blessed...and you in your remembrance of them. In years past I have direct knowledge of SNF's and ALF's from all sides. The single most important attribute for both those in the facilities and their families was being of the Faith. Having a personal relationship with God, and awareness of Scriptural Truths was and is indeed a saving grace. We think of love stories, Romeo and Juliet, the movie Love Story, and yet so many fail to know the greatest love story of all time. It's found in the New Testament and the Gospel message. Be in the Word. Theme from the "real" Love Story
Where do we begin
To tell the story of how great a love can be
The sweet love story that is older than the sea
The simple truth about the love He brings to me
Where do we start?
With His first hello
He gave a meaning to this empty world of mine
There'd never be another love another time
He came into my life and made the living fine
He fills my heart
He fills my heart with very special things
With angel songs, with wild imaginings
He fills my soul with so much love
That anywhere I go, I'm never lonely
With Him along who could be lonely?
I reach for His hand, it's always there
How long does it last
Can love be measured by the hours in a day
I have no answers now, but this much I can say
I know I'll need Him until the stars all burn away
