Amyloidosis, once considered rare, is actually very common, although until recently it has been difficult to diagnose and in individuals it remains extremely under-diagnosed, so it's hard to know what to make of Jessica's numbers yet. At autopsy as many as 25% of older people have been found to have ATTR amyloidosis, the main kind that causes heart failure; this was before COVID arrived https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/07853890701842988
