Maybe we won't have to actually have them all admit they were wrong. I'm thinking about Nazi Germany as an example. A huge percentage of the country believed in Hitler at one point. When the depth of his madness came to light and he was destroyed, it didn't matter what anyone thought. It was like a giant, irresistible tidal wave that just swept it all away. What became of all those once "true believers?" Most of them no doubt lived out the rest of their lives with a great sense of guilt and shame. It's widely believed the collective guilt of the German people may be one reason why they adopted such crazy policies as admitting huge numbers of refugees.
