The political ideology bending the science at the time was that under no circumstances could the wave of sickness be attributed to behavior. But the evidence is abundant that a proliferation of 'degenerate' lifestyle -- mainly extreme promiscuity and drug abuse (Amyl Nitrate) -- was a dominant factor in immune system damage. This was a highly politically incorrect causal factor, but a factually correct one.
As a result Fauci's NIH GUTTED CANCER RESEARCH in the late 80s to redirect funding to his fraudulent HIV story. The cascade of lies led to the harmful pushing of AZT as a treatment.
HIV, like other viruses, has immunosuppressive functions -- but the evidence is clear to me that it's not a dominant factor. HIV is fairly common. It resides largely dormant in many people and does not - in itself - lead to catastrophic immune dysfunction.
