The program will make capital and resources available to the poorest and most desperate communities in America. But the criteria will be indicators like poverty, addiction rates, violence, etc. Not skin color.”
Shelly how have all those “Great Society” programs worked out for the poor? They’ve destroyed families, created generations that are dependent on the state, and locked in democrat party constituencies in perpetuity. RFK Jr. rightly points out regulatory capture and corruption within the administrative state and then turns around and wants to expand certain centralized government programs...? It’s inexplicable.
Jason, first of all I’m not necessarily defending his position one way or the other, but I’m greatly offended by the numerous people who have joined the “fake news” media in their slanderous attempt at putting words in his mouth that are not there. They’ve been calling him an anti-vaxxer for years which is also untrue and way oversimplified (he is fighting for safe vaccines with more testing and transparency). He has done so much good for the people of this country, I just think he deserves a LOT more respect and appreciation. Re this particular program I would need more information to weigh in one way or the other but I don’t agree outright that all government assistance is “bad”. It has to be carefully constructed, but one only has to look at FDR programs in the 1930’s following the Great Depression to see examples of some programs that worked well for the benefit of all.
I think the history of FDR programs is leftist revisionist history like much of the history we were taught in school. He's definitely not an anti-vaxxer. I don't think many on this board are calling him that. He wants the efficacy and safety of vaccines to be more rigorously tested. That's a great thing. His critique of the regulatory agencies is solid. But then his solution is to give more power to administrative agencies. Make it make sense.
Like I said, I trust him to run it effectively. FDR did. I just visited a small museum in Washington dedicated to FDR’s CCC program which put people back to work in our national parks and made America great. Bravo FDR, good programs can work and put people back to work.
What you see and are taught about is the CCC program. What is omitted in the history we are taught? What makes you sure all those interventions didn't prolong the great depression? FDR was one of the most corrupt presidents in our history. He created the administrative/deep state that has been subverting our republic since its inception. The state necessarily devolves into leftist corruption. We've seen it time and time again. It needs to be dismantled mercilessly. If you want a more accurate history of the great depression, I'd recommend Amity Shlaes The Forgotten Man.
Bravo Shelley! Why is it that some folk willfully misunderstand what he says? It's almost as if politicians have for so long been untrustworthy that for them he is too good to be true.
I don’t willfully misunderstand. I understand the history of government attempts to “help” the poor. They’ve destroyed the nuclear family is communities. He’s critical of the state and then wants more of the state. It’s idiotic.
I think Carol is referring to everyone’s continued use of the word “reparations” when that’s NOT what he proposed. People continue using the word even after he set the record straight. So speak against HIS words and HIS truth, not the fake news. You are against any attempts to “help” the poor so that’s fair. Go ahead, vote for Trump as he is clearly your man. You had 4 years of him so at least you know what you’ll be getting.
No. I very much care about the poor. I believe we all have a responsibility to take care of the needy in our own communities and have studied government programs meant to “help” the poor and know that they do exactly the opposite. Kennedy understands this issue in other areas, but, inexplicably, still believes government is the solution to many of our problems. It’s not. We are the solution.
Except those aren't his only statements and given the current ideology of the vast majority of the people comprising our bureaucracy it's not hard to extrapolate what his programs will devolve into. I'd say the people characterizing his position as support for reparations are directionally correct.

I will agree to disagree, Jason. Have a nice day.
