I don’t think that Mike Pence was ever a deep state type.
I really think that he just lost his nerve.
Trump and his lawyers came up with an idea (I believe it had to do with sending the suspected fraudulent results back to the individual states for re-certification) which had never been tried before, and it would require Pence to act.

No court had ever ruled on the constitutionality of the plan, but Pence and his lawyers wanted no part of it.
Trump was, and still is, pissed because he didn’t try.
The Heritage Foundation is the opposite of the deep state. It’s really the conservative counter to the liberal Brookings Institution....... and the Brookings Institution really IS a part of the D.S.
Every time a Republican has been elected president over the last few decades, House Democrats have objected to the result. Also there have been times or a time when the Vice President used alternate electors in history.
It's really ridiculous to say there's a process where the Vice President certifies elections and Democrats have objected for decades using that process but he can't do it. Then they make a new law saying he can't do it. Pence is saying he couldn't have - which was not true. If he had said he wouldn't, that would be more accurate.
But then he would have to explain why he wouldn't. Regardless, Pence's reputation is shot and anybody who associates with him gets that smell all over him. I agree that Heritage is conservative and I'm glad they dumped Pence or he quit. They lost a lot of subscribers and support by hiring Pence.
I didn’t know that the Dems had used the same procedure that Trump was advocating. I thought that there was something new in the mix, but I never took a constitutional law class in college...... maybe I should have.
As for Pence, he ruined his reputation with everyone except for democrats and never-trumpers.
He even lost Mark Levin, who said that the two of them had been friends for more than 25 years and that, even though he didn’t agree with Pence about Trump, they were personal friends and that he would still have (and did have) Pence on his radio show.
Now Levin has nothing good to say about Pence at all.
I didn’t watch the debate, I watched Pres. Trump on Tucker instead. But I ve noticed that Pence continuously brags about all of the things that the “Trump/Pence administration” accomplished.
It takes a real dirtball to take credit for someone else’s accomplishments while simultaneously stabbing him in the back.
Maybe Pence and Christie should run on the same ticket, with Romney and Liz Cheney as the backup plan.

Birds of a feather and all that.....
