Whether or not you require a person to be a paying subscriber to comment should make no difference. The information is still available to all who subscribe. If you want to comment, then pay. That was my initial thought.

These are exceptional and wierd times and some find themselves outcasts. Isolated from family, friends, and coworkers. These substacks have become a support system. For these people, whether or not you have to pay to cmment is more about the principle and not about the money. You wouldn't want to have to pay a family member in order to send them a message. Thank you Steve.
My point is the ability of people outside a reader or fan base or "echo chamber" to at least give some feedback (good or bad) on some of the content.
Most MSM pubs have done away with all of their comments section (or outsourced it to FB where many people DO NOT have accounts OR cannot give honest comments for fear of being banned) b/c they don't want their mistakes or lies to be called out or corrected by us ignorant peasants... And they can ignore letters to the editor...
I do appreciate that Alex Berenson has a good mix e.g. free content, paywalled content etc - Even though I DON'T agree with him on Russia and politics (or his weird behavior with Dr. Malone), he does deserve to earn some money for putting his neck out publicly on COVID... Same with Steve on here who stays focused on COVID...
